Vicinity Workplace

A highly functional hybrid workspace that is aligned with the client’s brand, referencing important heritage details to create a strong connection between Vicinity’s working and retail environments.
Futurespace was engaged by Vicinity to assist the business with their post-COVID hybrid workplace. Our team developed a bespoke workplace strategy through detailed engagement with Vicinity’s leaders and key stakeholders and subsequently implemented the design.
The goal for the project was to move Vicinity’s teams into their own assets, being The Strand Arcade and the Queen Victoria Building (QVB), providing them with a highly flexible and functional workplace.
Blending Work from Home with Work from Office to create an inclusive, equal experience for everyone no matter where they are located was crucial. Acoustics throughout the space was a key feature, and a diverse menu of settings has been provided that includes more private space, more bookable spaces and better social and collaboration settings. A previously underutilised ‘attic’ space has been repurposed into a high-performance workspace that includes an outdoor area and team social spaces.
The built details reference the heritage design details of the iconic buildings in which they are located. Ornamentation is simplified and refined, referenced in joinery, lighting, and palette. Materials used include timber, glass, metal, tile, stone. Solid materials are weighty and have substance to them, whilst transparent/translucent materials are layered to create new textures and tones.
Both buildings were constructed in the 19th century and were a symbol of modernity and progress for their time. Similarly, the new Vicinity workplaces pay homage the past and look to the future.
