New workplace for a new direction in healthcare.
Smith and Nephew (S+N) is a leading international company in the development and marketing of
medical devices. FutureSpace designed new premises that consolidated a number of business group and provided a new, bigger warehouse and laboratory training facility.
The workplace includes general office functions flexible enough to accommodate the needs of varying teams, training facilities with adjoining staff and visitor gathering space/café and a state of the art high tech dry lab workshop kitted out for the purpose of training surgeons and the S+N sales teams.
The workshop provides real time video links to doctor’s surgeries so that a S+N expert can instruct a surgeon directly during a procedure, facilitating global training and reducing the cost and environmental impact of air travel.
The design concept is about a new direction for the design of healthcare – there is both warmth and ‘cleanliness’ in the materiality of the physical environment, and these design concepts are aligned with the progressive nature of S+N’s business. S+N’s own historical xrays were discovered by our team and used in the environmental graphics to signify the transparency of the business’s procedures and corporate responsibility.
